Ala Ebtekar (b. 1978 Berkeley, California) received an MFA from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, in 2006, and a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco in 2002. She was the San Francisco Center for the Book Artist-in-Residence in 2008; received the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery Print Award and the Jack and Gertrude Murphy Fine Arts Fellowship in 2006; and received the Presidential Merit Scholarship from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2001, 2000, and 1999.
